Description
Dracunculus vulgaris, or dragon lily, is an unsual flower. The large, reddish-purple spathe protects the dark inset spadix as it unfurls among its light glossy green leaves atop thick stalks. This plant tolerates some shade but prefers full sun and little water. Due to its strong odor upon blooming, it is best planted further away in the back of the borders and gardens. The scent does not last and will dissapate after a few days. Plant immediately upon receipt or unpack and store in a cool place until planting can occur.
