Description
Leucojum vernum, or Spring Snowflake, is a solitary, nodding, bell-shaped white flower with yellowish-green marks near the tip of each of the six petals among strappy, glossy, dark green leaves. Leucojum is related to snowdrops but flowers later and is taller. It flowers in April-May and will return year after year. This bulb is not fussy and likes either sun or deep shade in slightly moist soil. In the shade, where it is a bit cooler, it will bloom longer because the flowers cannot withstand the heat very well. Due to this flower’s adaptability, it is a favourite naturaliser, as well as being bee friendly.
